José Arrieta, Chief Information Officer of the US Department of Health and Human Services, Joins STOP COVID-19 Hackathon as Expert Judge

New York, NY, May 11, 2020– ConsenSys Health and co-sponsors Gitcoin, ConsenSys, Hyperledger, and OpenMined announced a new judge in their competition to build Web 3.0 tools in the fight against Covid-19, José Arrieta, Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  Mr. Arrieta has dedicated his career to public service, with over 15 years of experience in policy, procurement and emerging technology solutions with the U.S. Government.

Mr. Arrieta joined the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in January 2018 as the Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Acquisition.  In May 2019 he was appointed Chief Information Officer of HHS and now oversees the Agency’s $6.3B technology portfolio.  He is responsible for providing assistance and guidance on the use of technology-supported business process reengineering, investment analysis performance measurement, strategic development and application of information systems and infrastructure, and policies to provide improved management of information resources and technology and better, more efficient service to HHS clients and employees.

Actively engaged in the academic community, Mr. Arrieta currently serves at the University of Virginia and Johns Hopkins University as an Adjunct Professor focused on Blockchain, Business Management, and Public Procurement. He also serves as an advisor to the Dean of the Kogod Business School at American University and provides guidance on the creation of a data science lab that is exploring the use of blockchain.
